The harder I work the luckier I get...

It's good to go out there and work your ideas. Things happen. I am saying this because today I was offered a part-time job as a photographer with a new company. I was totally not expecting it but I accepted the offer. As the new years is ushered in I will see how that goes.

Water Droplets

Time is dripping fast and every drop is filling the bucket of age. The 28th of December is my birthday and it's here again. I have no plans, but to get dressed and go to work camera at my side. Don't know what my wife has planned but she has not indicated anything. She likes to surprise me so I'm waiting.

I did not shoot as much as I expected today. This morning I shot water dripping from a tap. It was pretty interesting as you can see from the photo. I am currently downloading it to my mac using iPhoto. It seems to be taking forever but I shot over 100 images of this tap using the continuous shooting mode on my 20D.

Anyway I'm busy counting down minutes left till my birthday starts according to the Roman Calender. 5 minutes and counting...

Rose is still a rose

If anyone wants to become a pro photographer he/she should shoot regularly. The big difference between a pro and an amateur is that the pro has to produce all the time. It is not a matter of feeling or inspiration. He has to get inspired, sometimes force inspiration all the time. Inorder to get to that point one must shoot everyday. One must develop the habit of producing.

Inorder to do this I've began shooting things around our house (my wife thinks I'm obessessed but it is all towards an end here...) This is another step to going pro: Shoot, shoot and shoot some more. I will be shooting everyday. It does not matter what subject matter as long as I'm out there shooting, or even in here (at home) shooting. I must make it.

Hope you enjoy the photo of the rose I shot today. I will try to post up a photo of my daily shoots here. Hey it's very late. I need to get some shut eye.

Mac Memory

Looks like I can't buy 1 Gb of memory anymore. Just had to spend the money on essential household stuff. I will have try for 512MB of ram.

I just checked out a cool camera from Fuji Film. It's not out yet but the features look great. Not that I am going to purchase it, I'm more of a Canon guy, but it's good to know what's out there. I think that it would be a great studio camera though.

Speaking of studio camera, the other day my wife and I took some photos in our living room using natural light. I will post them up soon..

Becoming a Pro Photographer

What does it take to become a pro photographer in a developing country? Can this work?

Hi, My name is Alvinus Melius. I am from the Island of St. Lucia (Caribbean).

Photography has been a passion for some time now. One of the biggest drawbacks in pushing ahead is money. Photography equipment can be quit pricey. The other thing is that I am not somewhere like the US where I can lease or rent equipment. Everything I need I must purchase completely or elsee I can't have it.

I began a path a few months ago towards doing more photography and eventually going pro. It's all I've dreamt of doing for a while and I think I will finally do it. The first step on this path was purchasing a Canon 20D camera with one lens. The second step was purchasing a printer, an Epson R200...it's not what I really want but it will work for now. I need more lenses, I need a faster computer with a larger monitor (I'm currently using an Apple 12 inch Powerbook G4 1.33Ghz with 256Mb of RAM (anyone can see why I need a larger screen).

I will be selling photographic prints to make that money as well as doing photo jobs. I will post my progress here together with my ups and downs in trying to become a Pro photographer. You can see some of my work at

I plan to start shooting Models over the holidays.

Keep checking this blog for updates.
